“It’s a good way to bring the community together especially with all the things happening right now. All the police brutality. Everyone gets to come together as a community,” says student Alex Presswood. The family friendly event aimed to educate, empower and uplift Milwaukee's youth. Black Lives Matter is the message two University of Wisconsin-Platteville activists are spreading in Southwest Wisconsin in response to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. On June 7, Alvin Watts and Alexandria Lara organized a peaceful protest at City Park in Platteville to bring awareness to systemic racism and police brutality. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered to listen to the speakers and march through downtown shedding a light on the racial justice movement taking place across the globe.
Milwaukee, meet your future bosses. These five young people exhibit just some of the brilliance of the next generation. They’re all high achievers, who are committed to coming back and giving back to the Milwaukee community in some way after going to college. All the hard work came together Protests against police violence and injustices facing the black community are still going strong internationally.
In Milwaukee on Thursday, peaceful protests crossed the city for several hours for the seventh straight night, following the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Demonstrations also call attention to the April death of Joel Acevedo, in Milwaukee. An officer, who was off-duty at the time, is charged in Acevedo’s death.
